Never Leave a Fungus Infection Untreated
Fingernail fungus infections are a highly contagious, common, and serious health issue. It is vital that if you have any of the symptoms related to a fingernail fungus infection to treat them as soon as possible. Not only are the effects it has on your nails unsightly and unhygienic, because it is so contagious if you do not treat it you risk infecting others around you as well.
Early symptoms of fingernail fungus infections are yellow discolouring of the nails. This can be quite subtle at first and therefore may go unnoticed. However once the fungus begins to develop the discolouration will become more prominent. The next obvious symptom that will occur if a fungus is left untreated is that the fingernails will start to harden and become flaky. This is because the fungus is getting between the live cells at the root of the fingernails and these are breaking down. There also may be some irritation and itchiness in the cuticles of the nail.
If a fungus infection is left untreated for too long it may have the very serious effect of destroying the nail completely. This is why it is so important to never leave a fungus infection untreated and to try and get rid of the infection as soon as possible.
Types of Treatments
There are several options for how to treat fungus infections such as those that can develop on the fingernails. There is the option of taking oral tablets to battle the infection from the outside in. These antifungal tablets will also rid the body of any associated infections such as athlete’s foot. However the downside to these tablets is that they are often required to be taken over a 6-12 week course to be fully effective. There is also a high probability that only using this type of medication on the infection will not return the nails back to their original appearance and you will need to wait for the infected nails to grow out.
Another option available to treat these types of fungus infections is using natural methods such as soaking them in vinegar and Tea Tree Oil daily. Again this will be required to be done over a 6 -12 week basis in most cases but is just as if not more effective and less expensive than using prescription medicine.
